I’m Joseph, a Masters by Research student. My interest lies in ecosystem responses to climate change and what we can do to protect and restore them. At Selva lab, I am focusing on the impacts of drought on the physiology and productivity of newly created woodlands in the UK. Specifically, I am using wood cores to measure the annual growth and xylem anatomy of trees throughout their lives to capture their responses to increasingly frequent droughts and heatwaves.
Prior to joining the lab, I studied biology at the University of Bristol before working as a research assistant at the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment in Australia, collecting data across New South Wales to quantify the ecological outcomes of revegetation projects.
When I’m not in the office, I’m likely outside exploring, climbing, surfing or something similar.
